Profile of Eigo Tateishi:
I am a Ph.D. candidate at the department of urban studies at Malmö University in Sweden. My main research topic is the socio-demographic geography of population decline (urban shrinkage) in megacity regions and effective urban governance for it. I am currently actively analyzing the Tokyo Capital Region for my Ph.D. thesis. I am also collaborating with researchers at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at the University of Tokyo in Japan to study urban planning and real estate markets. I am specializing in mixed methods of spatio-temporal analysis using GIS (Geographic Information Systems), fieldwork, and interviews. At Malmö University, I assist in teaching undergraduate and master’s level courses on quantitative analysis (especially SPSS, QGIS and ArcGIS) for urban planning and real estate appraisal. I hold a Master of Science degree in Human Ecology from the Department of Human Geography at Lund University in Sweden. Applying my technical skills in GIS and spatio-temporal analysis, I also work on various international research projects at the World Bank’s Washington D.C. headquarters. For example, I contributed to the World Bank’s research project “Socio-economic Impact of Mining on Local Communities in Africa” (project number: P148422) and many other large and small projects.
